Sex sells. Sex is fun. I like.

But since I've become this old, experienced and wise the times my pants are getting bigger watching a sex scene are getting rare - very rare.

Great directors like Hitch, Spielberg, Kubrick, Tarantino, etc. don't do a good job making good sex scenes. Why?

Actually, I don't think I've ever seen a film in a non-purn movie that closely resembles sex like it really is. I don't know whether that's a bad or a good thing.

Have you ever written or directed a sex scene? I didn't.

Well anyways, I just felt like making this topic about sex in the cinema.

Anyways... i was thinking about this just the other night as it happens.

Sex unless its for the sake of showing a few b00b shots should do something for the story. And if its for intimacy or showing that a couple has taken the next step i think the way its usually shown is **** . They always seem to have cheesy guitar or saxaphone music and use lots of cross fades. Its horrible horrible stuff and i cant bear to watch most of the time.

I would much prefere a director really make the effort to show the intimacy between the two (or more [img]wink.gif[/img] ) people... ive yet to really see one that has done it. And failing that... i think more people should show the pillow talk afterwards. Surely that gives us more insight into thier newly sexualy intimate relationship than some cheesy montage of sex positions like we are normaly treated to.

The pron scenes in Bound are some of the best I've seen.

The Bound sex scenes are also ultra-relevent to the story and the steamy relationship between Violet and Corky.

Yeah, Bound's an excellent flick. I picked up the DVD last month for 6 quid. It shows what promise the Wachowski's had before they p?ssed it all away with The Matrix (Not to open an old wound/thread for anyone [img]tongue.gif[/img] )...

Basic Instinct had sex scenes serving the story. I can still remember michael douglas's eyes looking up while going down on sharon...

I still wake up screaming.

There was a special in Empire about sex scenes if I remember correctly. Scenes trying to be sexy but in the end doing the exact opposite.

I think the sex scenes in Monsters Ball are also quite realistic.. and not your avereage sax and crossfade scene [img]biggrin.gif[/img]

What about currently, 'In the Cut' - a pretty good film too, very stylish (as you'd expect from Jane Campion).

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Hitchcock worked in the days of heavy censorship - but the end of North by Northwest is brilliant - just after Cary Grant and his new wife, Eva Marie Saint, get into bed on a train it cuts to a shot of the train entering a tunnel.

As far as I know Tarantino hasn't ever attempted a sex scene - so he can't be accused of doing them badly.

Anyway, if you want to see graphic depictions of s-ex then why not just watch a p-orn film?
